April is Autism Acceptance Month...a time to celebrate differences, promote understanding, and encourage inclusive practices that help everyone feel seen, heard, and valued.
This past Tuesday, we had the incredible opportunity to kick off the month with a special assembly, thanks to Harborfields SEPTA. Award-winning author Amy McCoy visited TJL to share her book Little Big Sister, a heartfelt story about Katie and her older brother Mikey, who has Autism. Amy spoke to our students about her journey as an author, the writing and illustration process, and most importantly, the message of inclusion, empathy, and being a good friend to all.
In preparation for the assembly, our staff created a school-wide
Little Big Sister Read Aloud! Each chapter was read and recorded by a different staff member, allowing students to hear the story in many voices before meeting Amy. This special Read Aloud can also be enjoyed at home,

We’re so grateful to Amy McCoy for visiting TJL and sharing her story, and to SEPTA for facilitating this memorable experience.
