TJL Weekly Update

2/9-2/13

TJL
Dear TJL Families,

We are so proud of our TJL students for their phenomenal performance at the Districtwide Black History Month Celebration. It was such a wonderful showcase of their talent and hard work. As we wrap up both PARP and our Book Fair, we want to extend a huge thank you to our amazing PTA for their support and dedication in making these events such a success.

This Monday, 2/9, please join us for a meaningful parent workshop in the TJL cafeteria at 7 pm. We are excited to welcome Joe Salamone, founder and executive director of the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying. We will focus on the idea that all students have the capability to be leaders and how we can work together to unlock student potential. Please be sure to see the flyer in the newsletter for details.

We are also looking forward to a special week ahead as we celebrate P.S. I Love You Day, recognize Lunar New Year, and enjoy our last week together before mid-winter break.

Wishing you a fantastic day,
Mrs. Washington

Important Information

Monday- February 9th- Parent Workshop

We are excited to invite you to a special parent workshop taking place at TJL on February 9th at 7pm @ TJL, titled “Unlocking Leadership at Home.” This engaging evening will focus on helping children build confidence, develop strong leadership skills, and learn healthy ways to navigate conflict.

As part of our ongoing work with students around our Lion’s Mane Mission- Being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Inclusive, we are thrilled to partner with the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying for this important event. The workshop will be led by Joe Salamone, Founder and Executive Director of LICAB, who works with school districts across Long Island to support students and families in building positive relationships and strong communication skills.
During the session, families will learn:
  • How to help children grow into confident leaders
  • The importance of empathetic listening and communication
  • Practical strategies for supporting children through conflict
  • How to approach conversations at home and respond thoughtfully to what children may share
We truly believe that all students have the capability to be leaders, and this workshop will provide valuable tools to help nurture those skills at home.
This event is open to all parents of students in grades K–8.
To support families, our Makerspace and Library will be open with supervision, offering a fun and safe space for children while parents attend the workshop.

We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful evening of learning and connection!

2/9-2/13- P.S. I Love You Day- Be the Light

We will recognize P.S. I Love You Day with activities that promote belonging and kindness. Throughout the week, students will take part in a variety of activities that support this meaningful work. On Friday, we invite all students and staff to wear purple as a show of our shared commitment to kindness and connection. 💜
PS I love you

Student Government Spirit Day- Monday- 2/9

Wear your favorite jersey/sports shirt to celebrate the big game. Feel free to highlight your favorite team with a bright colored accessory to kick off P.S. I Love You Day. If you are watching the Super Bowl today...enjoy and have fun!

Lunar New Year Celebration- 2/11

We’re excited to celebrate Lunar New Year at TJL on February 11th, a week early since school is closed on February 17th, when the Year of the Horse begins. Our library is decorated with cultural items from the Huntington Arts Council Discovery Chest, and students will enjoy lessons and activities exploring Lunar New Year traditions, symbols, and stories as part of our commitment to inclusivity and a culture of belonging.

February Student Monthly Meetings

We will bring all students together for our monthly meetings, centered around P.S. I Love You Day, to celebrate kindness, connection, and belonging. We will proudly recognize our January Lions of the Month, and as a school community, we’ll wrap up the week with a special Glowstick Gratitude Moment, a meaningful way to reflect, appreciate one another, and shine our light together.
